    The Emotional Impact Divorce Has on Kids

    Divorce creates emotional turmoil for the entire family, but for kids, the situation can be quite scary, confusing, and frustrating:

    • Young children often struggle to understand why they must go between two homes. They may worry that if their parents can stop loving one another that someday, their parents may stop loving them.

    • Grade school children may worry that the divorce is their fault. They may fear they misbehaved or they may assume they did something wrong.

    Child Custody v. Allocation of Parental Responsibilities

    The term "Child Custody" has been phased out in Colorado.  Instead, the term now utilized legally in Colorado is "allocation of parental responsibilities.". There are two main components to "allocation of parental responsibilities.".     Colorado's Maintenance Guidelines

    The guidelines for determination of spousal maintenance, established when House Bill 1058 became law in May, calculate support by taking 40 percent of the higher income earner’s monthly income and subtracting 50 percent of the lower earner’s monthly income.
